ADASS Logo Artist

Victoria is very lucky to have a wealth of Indigenous artists creating spectacular work.
This year, the eye-catching and powerful ADASS XXXII logo has been designed by local Indigenous artist Margaret August.

The Thunderbird

Margaret says that this particular logo design depicts a symbol for the sky, as a Thunderbird with the star in the middle. Thunderbirds are powerful mythical beings in Coast Salish view of the Universe. In the logo, the Thunderbird is reflected on both sides to represent symmetry and the global cooperation amongst the members of ADASS.

While creating this logo, Margaret says that the subject of astronomy has inspired them to continue their research on stories and legends from their Coast Salish community that have any knowledge that is parallel with science and the stars.
